The old saying goes, out the old, in with the new.  Right? WRONG!!! Well, its wrong with the Sony’s new SMP-N100 when it comes to technology.  Not everyone has 1000s of dollars to spend on a new TV with all the bells and whistles and, we all still want to do the latests and greatest. The Sony SMP-N100 allows you to use or old TV (even a tubed, black and white TV) to stream video content from the web in addiction to viewing pictures, attaching an external harddrive or other usb devices or stream other content over our wireless network and view/listen to it on our old TV.  Cool huh? Here at ItsHeyNow.com we’re all about bringing you the latest and greatest, so let’s do a little recap of this past Monday’s Apple Worldwide Developer Conference.  Steve Jobs and company used this event to introduce new software.  However, the big question was whether the iPhone 5 would be introduced.  The end of the event even had an “and there’s more” moment, but it wasn’t the availability of the iPhone 5 (just yet).

One of the big introductions were a new operating system for the Mac, dubbed Lion which will be osX 10.7.

Rather than bore you with all the features of the new introductions I’m going to include official links from Apple this week.

It will be available in July and can only be downloaded from the App Store for $29.99 there will be no disks available.

 

The second thing to drop was iOS 5 which will be available for upgrade in the fall for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches.

This will be available in the fall which coincidently enough is in line with rumors of the iPhone 5 being released in September rather than the usual product cycle of summer.

 

The final thing is the death to MobileMe and it being replaced by iCloud.

Cloud computing is the new fad all over as a way to save information and setting across multiple platforms.

And here we go!  Let’s get right into it and talk about the Sidekick!  No no no, this is not that phone that almost everyone used to have, it’s the new and improved Sidekick 4G from T-Mobile with Android.  Now, no need to talk about Android again as it’s been discussed here numerous times, but just for the record it has Froyo version 2.2 of Android.

 Now this is not the same Sidekick you used to rock in middle school, it’s beefed up with a 1 ghz professor and a 3 mp camera!  It features the familiar Sidekick form factor which made the original Sidekick a messaging machine.  Samsung makes the phone now and it’s featured on exclusively on T-Mobile’s network.

Why not try it out and re-live the past with this updated phone?

Everyone like to read right?   Well all these makers of e-readers are banking on that fact and in keeping with last week’s theme of the Kindle, Barnes & Noble has just announced an update to its Nook!  So let’s dive in and see what this new hardware has to offer.

It’s a 6” touch-screen with an e-ink screen.  Like with the Kindle, the e-ink screen is freakishly similar to reading a book.  The use of this technology also allows you to read in the bright sun with no issues.  The update to the e-ink screen promises 50% more contrast than the previous edition Nook.  No need to worry about the Nook weighing down your purses or book-bags (maybe that’s what Kevin Durant keeps there?!) as it stunningly weighs only 8 ounces.  You would think that with such a small frame, the battery was terrible, right?  Well don’t be fooled, you can get up to 2 months on a single charge, doubling the Kindle.

Most books are priced at $9.99 and B&N has access to a library of 2 million books and 1,000 books can be stored at a time on your Nook.   Additionally, you can borrow books from local libraries and share books with other Nook users.  The nook connects to wifi for easy downloading and when you are in a Barnes & Noble store you can easily connect to the in-store wifi and you’re allowed up to one hour of free reading in-store of Nook books.  The new nook costs $139 and will be available June 10, but is available for pre-order right now.

Alright alright alright (Kevin Hart voice) we’re back here for another wildly popular edition of Tech Thursday’s with your boy algrin.

Today let’s talk about e-readers and the leader of the pack is easily Amazon’s Kindle.  The market in infiltrated with tons of readers, but the Kindle is the best overall as a straight up reader.

The e-ink screen is so good that it seems as if you’re reading an actual book.  It also prevents lots of glare that you can read it on the beach and essentially be unaffected.

Turning pages is super quick with a quick swipe of your finger.  The device can amazingly store 3500 books!  And if you have that many books, props to you!  Additionally, you can read PDF’s.  Now have no fear while powering through all those books, since you can last up to a month.

Most books are only $9.99 and can be downloaded within 60 seconds using either wifi or 3G.  The way books are downloaded also adds to the variance of the models.  The newly introduced $114 and $139 models have wifi only.  The difference is that the less expensive model has ads built into the home screen.  For $189 you get a model that uses wifi and free 3G book downloads.

Since it’s powered by Amazon, you have access to a library of over 900,000 books, I think you can find yourself something to read! New additions to the Kindle is technology that allows you to get digital books from the library as well as lending a book that you purchased to a friend with their own Kindle.

I know lots of people who said they weren’t big readers and having a Kindle has made them want to keep reading.  Now how cool is that?  So why not go and get one an try it out.

Looxice is a pretty cool bluetooth camera that you can wear s a headset which connects to your phone and allows use connect to your phone and record up to 5 hours! Pretty cool huh! Basically whatever you see will be recorded at eye level (what I see, you see)! Well, maybe my distribution isn’t doing it justice so check out this video of Looxice and tell us what you think. Google held their annual developer’s conference in San Francisco on Tuesday called I/O and my press invite must’ve gotten lost in the mail.  Pride look into that situation ASAP!  But, through the power of the internet I can still share what went on there.

Google confirmed that it has activated more than 100 million Android devices worldwide across 36 OEM’s and 215 carriers. There are now more than 310 Android devices in 112 countries and Google activates 400,00 Android devices each day.

Google started out the conference by showing how much dominance and devices they’re activated in total as a strong opening to show its sheer power.

Next, they went on to outline the updates to Honeycomb which will be unveiled as 3.1  This is the Android operating system which is tablet specific and can be found on Microsoft’s Xoom.

In addition to the update to Honeycomb, Google announced that the next Android operating system will be called Ice Cream Sandwich (Google has a naming scheme that goes alphabetically).  This OS will be a unified cell phone and tablet operating system.

Now onto added features for current Android based devices.  There will be a movie rental service.

Google Music will allow users to store up to 20,000 songs on Google’s servers and is a cloud based solution.  There will be an Android app and changes made across different devices will all be synched as well.  The unveiling of this music service is done as a direct reaction to a similar service offered by Amazon.

Another cool thing introduced was Android @ Home which will allow your Android device to act as a remote control for devices and appliances in your house.
