Alright here we go with another Tech Thursday with @algrin today I’m here to talk about the newest craze in video and that’s 3D. It seems like every movie nowadays in the theaters is coming out in 3D. What’s the craze you ask? Well it makes your video almost life-like… or does it?
Personally, I think it’s pretty cool to watch content in 3D, but at the same time I also believe it’s not practical. Now in the theaters is one thing because you all get glasses and the specific purpose is to watch the film in 3D, but at home, like cmon whose going to sit there with glasses and watch tv (pretty limited) in 3D? As far as content goes, theres about 3-4 3D channels available in full, true 3D on DirecTV. Cablevision shows selected events in 3D. Your best bet if you want to see 3D in the comfort of your own home is to get a 3D TV and a 3D blu-ray player. Not only do you get great HD quality for non-3D films, but you also get the advantage of watching in 3D when you have a 3D movie. More and more movies are being released, so don’t worry!
From personal experience, Panasonic has the best 3D quality, but the new Samsung “D” series tv’s are catching up! LG’s new line is pretty cool because it uses passive glasses like the ones in the theaters that are essentially disposable, but the quality is subpar to say the least.
So, lets say you have 4 sets of glasses, but 5 friends come over to watch an event? Wompwomp!

Or do “fans” need to get a grip? People, they are only games, not life or death situations. Opening day at Dodger Stadium saw a brutal off field incident; a couple of Dodger “fans” beat and hospitalized another fan who was there to cheer on the San Francisco Giants. The victim had the NERVE to wear a Giants’ jersey. These thugs when captured should be penalized to the maximum extent of the law. This is becoming to common place in sports arenas. We can’t have a difference of opinion without it turning physical and violent. How many times have we gone to an event and the behavior of “the adults” is childish, vulgar, and at times criminal? Enough already it is a game, and a year from now they do it again. So relax and wait for the do-over!

Or is it sad to see college basketball fade off into next season? Congrats to UConn for winning the NCAA Men’s Championship. It was an ugly game, but winning ugly is better than losing pretty.

Or did Notre Dame not read the column last week, when we guaranteed the women’s championship to UConn? Too much drama for the mamas Sunday; the favorites Stanford and UConn were upset in the women’s tournament. Congrats to Texas A & M and Notre Dame. We went to press too early for the results of the Women’s championship. We will samba with the mamas next week. Love you ladies!

Or does Kobe have the Lakers balling? The San Antonia Spurs are reeling and Lakers are rolling in the west. The Ninja Assassin, Kobe Bryant, has the Lakers within 2 ½ games of the Spurs for the best record in the west. If the Lakers have home court throughout the western conference playoffs, they will repeat as western conference champions. No doubt!!!!!

Or do you still not believe in Derrick Rose? D. Rose is the MVP of the NBA. He has led, carried and pushed the Bulls to the best record in the eastern conference. Before the start of the season how many of you had the Bulls leading the east? Raise your hand. That’s what I thought, no one!

Or does the Knicks making the playoffs take some of the pressure off D’Antoni?
The Knicks clinched a playoff spot Sunday. Now the trick is to get out of the first round. It’s all about matchups, their success in the first round depends upon their opponent ? More on this once the playoff matchups are set.

Or does Shaquille look old? Returned from an injury, played five minutes and sustained another injury. His body is starting to breakdown. Will either of the O’Neal’s be of much help to the Celtics in the playoffs? Maybe trading Kendrick Perkins wasn’t such a good idea.

Or does it not matter that the NFL labor dispute is still going on? Like we asked before, who do you side with the billionaires or the millionaires? The millionaires, the players, are set to dip into their strike fund and issue players, in need, $60, 000. I know we could all use $60k, but the players really need to take a look at this move. There are people who are currently out of work and didn’t make $60K when working. Players, donate the strike fund to your local charity and help the community. I am sure there are people in the community that can use the Money.

Or does Madden really get it? Madden 12, which will be released later this year, lockout or not, will address the issue of players’ concussions. Players who get a concussion during a Madden game, will not be able to play the rest of the game. Additionally, the game will not show helmet to helmet contact,, or hits on defenseless players, and the game announcers will discuss injuries. There is no better way to get younger people to realize how serious a concussion is than to put it in a video game. Hats off to Madden, and his people, for their social consciousness.

Or are there more grunts and groan in women’s tennis than ‘pro’ wrestling? Victoria Azarenka defeated Maria Sharapova last weekend in the Ericsson Open. Every stroke was accompanied by a groan or grunt, it was as if they were wrestling the Fabulous Moolah. While I am here, are there any Americans not named Williams who are competitive in tennis?

Or is The Final Four the catchiest name in sports? (Okay, the frozen four, for college hockey, is pretty cool too.) Now that the final four teams are set in the NCAA, congrats to Butler, Uconn, VCU and Kentucky.

Or should we stop using the term Mid-Major for college basketball teams that have proven over the years they can play with the big boys, e.g., Butler? Butler has made it to the final four two years in a row, where are my beloved Tar Heels this year?

Or did I miss the apologies to VCU from the ESPN announcers? They ripped the selection of VCU on Selection Sunday. Apparently the real basketball experts were on the selection committee, and not on camera. Congrats, again, to VCU.

Or did we forget the ladies tournament in Basketball? Not really, but the thrill is just not there. It is a safe bet that Uconn, will win the championship; just a matter of who they will play. No drama for the mamas.
By the way, does Coach Summitt, Tennessee, have a stare or what? She is a great coach and would do just fine coaching guys. Tennessee should have offered her the men’s job. It would have made a great story and generated a lot of publicity, and she would have done a great job. Not happening, Good luck to Coach Martin at Tennessee.

Or did the Nuggets get the best of the Carmelo trade? The Nuggets have a better record than the Knicks since the trade and are playing exciting ball. The Knicks look lost and confused-… and what else is new.

Or is the Mike D’Antoni watch officially on? I know the coach doesn’t suit up and play, but someone has to take the hit. The Knicks are terrible! The Knicks do not currently have the personnel to play the way D’Antoni coaches. Coach D likes to run and gun, but his best player wants to catch the ball and play one on one.
Someone has to give in…and Carmelo wears the sneakers. Nice job Monday night, Carmelo- 39 points and a victory.

Or have the Chicago Bulls quietly become one of the best teams in basketball. They currently sit on top of the Eastern Conference and are showing no signs of slowing down. If they stay healthy they will be a force to deal with in the playoffs. Can you name their big three? ( I will give you Rose.)

Or do you dread the thought of 162 game baseball season, before the playoffs? Baseball is an ultra marathon, it goes on forever.

Or does baseball have statistics for EVERYTHING. Most left field hits by a right handed fielding first baseman, who bats left handed, and has two moles on his left hand versus a right-handed pitcher, who … you get my drift.

Or does Hockey and NASCAR have the same problem? We only watch to see a fight or a collision.
