Or has Victor Cruz become a real star in the NFL? Trailing the Washington Redskins with less than two minutes to go, the NY Giants put together another rally and defeated he Redskins. The winning play was a 77-yard passing play from Eli Manning to Victor Cruz.

Cruz, a wide receiver, who was not drafted coming out of UMASS has become a real star in the NFL. Victor is a threat to break a game open on any given play, in addition to being a reliable third down option. The Giants need to be smart and lock this talented kid up with a long tem contract. A Ptown boy doing good!
Ahmad Bradshaw, running back, NY Giants, needs to calm down. He nearly gave Cruz a concussion with a slap to the helmet , in addition to getting into a shouting match with the head coach, Tom Coughlin. It’s one thing to be emotional, but you have to keep it under control.
The NY Jets need to “go potty” or get off the bowl. It is pretty obvious that quarterback, Mark Sanchez, is not going to get the job done. Why not use Tebow and see what happens, they have nothing to lose, except their losing ways.
Who’s Contending?
Atlanta, NY Giants, San Francisco, Minnesota, Green Bay, and Chicago
Who’s Pretending?
Kansas City, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Jacksonville, NY Jets, and Charlotte.
The NFL season is approaching the half way mark and Atlanta is still undefeated. Are they for real or just lucky? Right now the Falcons are flying high and appear to be serious. The second half will expose or dispose them for sure.

Or was Dwight Howard crying at being introduced as a Laker for the first time? After eight years in Orlando and a six-month recovery following back surgery, Dwight Howard finally played his first game as a Laker. Dwight had 19 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots in a losing effort. Welcome back and good luck!

Fans and several Celtics are bad mouthing Ray Allen for leaving Boston and joining Miami in the off-season. Allen made a decision that was in his best interest. He was not in the long-range plans of the Celtics, and he didn’t get along with Rondo, the point guard. (He even took less money leaving Boston.) It made sense for Allen to pack his bags. Ever the class guy he took out a full-page ad thanking the fans and the city of Boston for their love and treatment during his stay there.
Boston, which has replaced Allen, is being petty. They need to wish him well and move on. It will be interesting to watch them meet this season. An all ready tense rivalry has become more tensed.
I am sure the fans would be more understanding if it weren’t Miami and the dreaded Heat.
NBA officials have been asked/told to call the ’Reggie Miller rule‘. That is an offensive foul for players who are shooting the ball and kick out at their opponent drawing contact. Reggie got a ton of four point plays because fouls were called on defenders who were kicked by Reggie as he unleashed a three pointer.

NBA General Managers picked the Heat and the Lakers to meet in the Finals. Can’t argue with that! (Although the Lakers have lost six games in the preseason.)

Or is Evander really confused? Former boxing heavy weight champ Evander Holyfield has announced he will ‘unretire” and box professionally at age 50. Holyfield claims to have been confused when he announced his retirement a couple of weeks ago.
Evander is baffled all right, he must think boxing is like golf, where there is a senior circuit and you compete against people your age – NOT! Evander you will be fighting guys half your age. George Foreman was a spry 45 years old when he won a title. But 50 is definitely AARP territory.

Or is there still baseball being played? The San Francisco Giants down 3 games to 1 came back and won the series 4 games to 3 against the St. Louis Cardinals to win the National league. They will now play in the World Series against the Detroit Tigers, who beat the Yankees in four games to win the American League. They refer to baseball players as the Boys of Summer, but the World Series could be called the Fall Classic.

Or did Tamika catch it all? Congratulations to Tamika Catchings and the Indiana Fever for winning the WNBA championship over the Minnesota Lynx, 3 games to 1.

Tamika was the finals MVP and deserves a big ‘YOU GO GIRL’!

Or did the NY Giants remind everyone that they are the defending Super Bowl Champions? The Giants lived up to their name and played ‘big’ on the road, easily defeating the San Francisco 49ers. The Giants, who just go about their business and win big games, surprised everyone except themselves with the victory. Maybe it is time to give ‘Big Blue’ the respect they are entitled to as champs.

Note to the Giants front office-sign Victor Cruz to a long-term deal. He’s a keeper, good player and teammate, in addition to being a natural in front of the camera. I see a broadcasting career in the future. Why not let him do the Giant’s game when his career is over. He would be a perfect fit.
The Jets, Patriots and Dolphins are log jammed at the top of their division. What does that say about the Patriots, this year, who typically win this division; is it parity or mediocrity? We’ll find out this weekend, when the Jets and Patriots lock horns in New England.
The Baltimore Ravens suffered a real blow losing middle linebacker, Ray Lewis for the season. Ray suffered torn triceps muscle. It is possible that Lewis at 37 years old and with 17 years in the league may retire. It was a double hit for the Ravens, as cornerback L. Webb suffered a torn ACL in his knee and is also lost for the season. Best wishes for speedy and full recoveries for both of these warriors.

Trailing by 24 points at halftime, Peyton Manning (quarterback) led the Denver Broncos to a come from behind 35-24 victory over the San Diego Chargers Monday night. Manning who was 1-5 against the Chargers, showed why he is considered an elite quarterback and leader.
I guess Peyton is trying to live up to his younger brother (Eli Manning, NY Giants) doings. Wouldn’t it be cool to have the Mannings meet in the Super Bowl? The commercials alone would be worth it.

Or is the NBA beginning to warm its engine? The Brooklyn Nets played their first game in the Barclays Arena, in Brooklyn with a victory over the Washington Wizards. The arena is the newest in the league and is a showplace for the NBA. The Nets, on paper, appear to be competitive, which is good news for the league.

Or did the New York Yankees, Major League Baseball catch a bad break Saturday? Captain and all-star shortstop Derek Jeter, fractured his ankle in the American League championship series against the Detroit Tigers.
The Yankees, who have played the entire season without Mariano Rivera, their star closer/pitcher, torn ACL (knee), can’t seem to catch a break, as they must now continue the playoffs without Jeter also. Jeter will need approximately three months to recover. The good news, if any, is that the injury does not appear career threatening.
Best wishes Derek for a healthy and speedy recovery.
Speaking of the Yankees, why are they making A-Rod the scapegoat for their ‘quiet’ bats. Yes, A-Rod is struggling, but so are Cano, Swisher and Granderson, in other words the entire middle of the lineup. Alex has been an easy target since joining the Yankees, because of his huge contract. But no one forced the Yankees to pay him all that money.

Last night’s game ended after we went to press.

Or is the WNBA still playing games? Yes the ladies are balling. Indiana versus Minnesota for the prize. The Indiana Fever lead the series 1-0.
We are predicting Tamika Catchings and the Fever will find a way to catch the championship. But we know M. Moore, of the Lynx, would like to win it one more time, so we won’t be totally shocked if the Minnesota Lynx defend their championship and win it again.
This is why we play the games-anything can happen.

Or is MMA as brutal as it gets with rules?
Anderson Silva stopped Stephan Bonnar with a knee to the body with 20 seconds left in the first round Saturday night, winning his 17th consecutive fight in front of his home fans at UFC 153, in Brazil.

Silva (31-4) showed off his usual dominance while stopping Bonnar (17-8) for the first time in the veteran’s career. Silva dared Bonnar to take a shot at him in the early minutes before hurting him with a knee and finishing him with punches on the ground.
There is something very primitive and brutal about MMA, but you must admit it holds your interest. What does that say about us as a society, when we cheer someone getting kicked and punched into submission? Go figure!
